Ivory

I lay silent under
the tower of muscle
where the beast hangs his head
like a wet honeycomb.

Every bone is stiff
as ivory down here,
searching in dark slowness
the beast's every movement.

My wails poke through the sky
star after star until
the beast glows above me,
preparing his death thrust,

his eyes the pink of quartz,
his smell the scent of sound,
each of his hairs flowers,
underworld roses.
